
Legal Consultant
Amelia Barbadoro has spent almost twenty years working in the field civil rights law. Amelia earned her Bachelor's Degree (BA) in Legal Studies and Social Thought & Political Economy from the University at Massachusetts (2001); Juris Doctorate (JD) from New York Law School (2004); Master of Arts (MA) in Management from Harvard University (2008); Masters of Philosophy (M.Phil.) in Urban Education from City University of New York (CUNY) (2013); and Doctorate of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Urban Education Policy Studies from CUNY (2015). Her dissertation, The Socioemotional Impact of Disparate Student Discipline: An Examination of Racial Bias and Out-of-School Suspensions, examined how inequitably applied disciplinary policies have resulted in a disproportionate percentage of black students suspended from school. Her dissertation further examined how such discipline impacts the social and emotional development of these students.
In addition to serving as a Legal Consultant for Lento Law Group, Amelia currently works full-time as the Director of the Office of Equity & Compliance and Title IX Coordinator at SUNY University at Albany, tasked with ensuring University-wide compliance with state & federal laws that prohibit workplace discrimination and sexual misconduct. She served as Assistant Commissioner for the Office of Equal Opportunity and Diversity Development at the NYS Office of Children and Family Services prior to joining the University at Albany.
